I guess it would matter if the ads "overpowered" the site and made the actual blog hard to read.

Tammy

Very few ads bother me. I wouldn't stop reading the blog just because of them. If they were really obnoxious, I would definitely show you the courtesy of letting you know before I just stopped reading!

I prefer to keep my blog ad-free and I never pay attention to ads on other blogs. I'm good at tuning out advertisements, even the ones on TV.

Karen

I've been thinking about doing it. I agree, it did seem like it was shunned at one time, but is more accepted now. And who couldn't use a few extra $$s. I just need to start doing some research on it though!

Renna

I've noticed anymore that just about all the blogs I read have ads on them. I don't pay much attention to them. In other words, they don't offend me or deter me from reading a blog I like.

Jennifer, show me an example of what you're considering. I either ignore them altogther and don't realize they are there or I don't know what you're talking about. Please help explain. Carolyn in NC

I get the biggest return from TextLink Ads..
http://www.text-link-ads.com/?ref=78858 though it is said that it dings your Google rating mine has stayed steady. They are unobtrusive.. they just pick words in the text of your blog that relate to the advertisers and pop a link right into your text. It's sometimes odd.. but it pays! VERY well! And basically they just look like regular links in your blog text! No flashing no blink no nonsense!

I do have an ad or two. No Adsense or google ads clogging up my text, though. And remember that you have control over what ads appear. It's your blog.

I think a subtle, topic-appropriate ad or two is reasonable--hey, if it helps to pay the bills, right? Blogs with a LOT of ads, or the kind that blink, or ads that have nothing to do with the content of the blog--those are intrusive and annoying, but something appropriate in the sidebar? Hey, sidebars are full of all sorts of things--I can skim past an ad just as easily as other things that I don't NEED to read! (grin)

My only issues with the ads on blogs is that sometimes they are completely inappropriate for viewing at work. So, while I can log on to your blog while at work and not fear someone coming in my cube, the ads sometimes are very random. Or, they include video streaming which is 1) not allowed at work, and 2) extremely annoying especially when it includes loud talking or flashing lights. And really, I shouldn't be looking at blogs at work -- but, seriously, who ever follows THAT ridiculous rule? ;)

A few blogs I go to have ads, and I know they have had issues with the ads not being in synch with the message of their blog. But, I think that you can work with the ad company and make sure this doesn't happen.

Other than that, I say go for it. :)
