How long should a digital camera last? Mine typically last 18 months to 2 years. If you want to be more precise, they generally last somewhere between 4,200 and 5,000 pictures. You can tell where I'm heading with this post, can't you? My digital camera was Dead On Arrival at our weekend getaway to the Hamptons. That was disappointing as the Hamptons are always a great spot for picture taking. Everything seems more beautiful there. The people. The houses. The gardens. The views. Even the rainy weather was more beautiful there. Heck. BF and I took an early morning walk and we thought that the weeds looked beautiful. But you'll just have to trust me on all this since my camera died and I am unable to provide you with any photographic proof.

Good luck with your new camera! I've been very happy with my new one. I know I just had to go right out and replace it...such a necessity these days :)

The smaller camera is much more useful. Boys must go to a special roll your eyes at mom school.

I am sorry the G9 died on you. I had trouble with my G7 and sent it back to Canon three times. They eventually fixed the problem and it has caused me not a care in the world since it was fixed. How about fixing the G9, give it to Michael and you buy yourself an Elph?

I carry an Elph in my purse. It's four years old now and the little switch to move between taking and viewing photos doesn't exactly work reliably any more, but it DOES still work ... mostly. It's the second one I've had, too. But, of course, you know I love my Nikon DSLR!

I have a Canon G9 and I've taken 14984 photos in the last year (almost exactly a year as well) and I'm not having any issues and haven't had any issues. I had a Canon Elph before this from two series ago(? maybe three) and took almost 40000 photographs with it. I only replaced it because Chris decided I needed something a little nicer. I'm thinking you keep getting duds or I just get really stellar ones.

I've been thinking of getting a new camera...although mine hasn't died yet. I'll have to give the Elph a look-see.
