I decided to compete in three events for the Knitting Olympics, Ravelympics and Finish or Frog It Olympics. All three events involved finishing WIPs
- Faery Ring Sweater
- Funky Electric Socks
- Secundogeniture's Silk/Cashmere Socks
Along the way, I learned many things.
- Trying to knit too much in a short amount of time is not a healthy thing. Period. Full Stop. Yet, we knitters persist.
- Attempting to finish the Faery Ring Sweater - a large project - is not really feasible when you're traveling for 9 days of the Olympics and you don't check baggage or are responsible for driving 18-20 hours.
- Bright Shiny Objects are a distraction to reaching your goal
- Too much knitting in one day can change your gauge.
While I didn't even complete my competition in two of the three categories (Faery Ring and Funky Electric), I did manage to finish, but not place, with the Secundogeniture's Silk/Cashmere Socks aka The Bright Shiny Object.
Secundogeniture woke up this morning, saw his brand new socks and said "Yeah! You finished my socks. I'm going to wear these to school today."
Is it any wonder I love knitting for this guy?
Awww - even if I didn't finish my originally intended Olympic Project, this one gets a Mom's Gold Medal. I'm so thrilled. Wear them well Secundogeniture!
PS - Here are the details
- Basic top down sock with heel flap - Cast on 64 sts
- US Size 1 needles (I prefer Magic Loop method, so I used 40" Turbo Addis)
- 2 skeins of Lana Grossa Meilenweit 50 Seta/Cashmere
- Color 639 Dye Lot 45596

I tackled just one Olympic Knitting project - the Jaywalker socks on Ravelry. Turns out they've been a bugger because I was trying the "speedracing" version, and have had to go back many times! aarrgghh. The Olympics finished before I did. In fact, the 2012 summer games may finish before I get this sock done!

Did you know that Bode Miller only lasted 7 seconds on the Slalom? and he's a freakin'god on skies...you did just fine:)

I don't think an old Gold Medal beats the son's appreciation! I love that colorway. Sort of a blended stripe with no pooling. what was the colorway again???

when knitting gets to much for my hands I like to use my loom and weave alittle just because I really like fiber.

Congratulations on finishing a beautiful pair of socks! That is no small achievement given all that was going on around that project in your life. There is nothing more satisfying than making something for someone who will appreciate the love that went into it. The rest of things--we know what Scarlett would have said!

It feels so good to have someone appreciate a knitted gift, doesn't it? They're great socks!
