The Wonderful Wallaby truly deserves its moniker. In my opinion that's because it grows so quickly since it's knit in stockinette in the round, yet has an interesting enough construction plan that it never gets boring. So while I watched a BBC mini-series Almost Strangers with Matthew MacFadyen and Michael Gambon yesterday, I managed to make significant progress on this adult small Wallaby.
That's 2 hours and 38 minutes of knitting. At this pace, I think I could finish this sweater in no time.
That red line is just a visual guide to help me see where the stitches are for picking up the pouch (next step). I simply hold a piece of contrast color fingering weight yarn when knitting the second row of stockinette on the front half of the sweater. Then when it's time to pick up the sts for the pouch, it makes it oh so much easier to stay in the right row as there is an odd tendency to want to pick up sts in the row above or below the 2nd row. Brilliant idea really.

I recently got some yarn for a Wallaby for my son and I shall be using your idea. It is fantastic!

I, too, have knit umpteen wallabies, but never marked the pick up row. It looks like a very helpful trick. Thanks!
