I've been resting and relaxing and generally catching up on my Zzzzz's this past week. It's been absolutely heavenly. Knitting has been slow, but there has been some knitting.
But even more than knitting, I've been watching some movies and mini-series on Netflix. Guess which one I'm totally hooked on?
Wow! I just love this miniseries - Pillars of the Earth. I can hardly wait for the big finale this Friday. Oops - I can't watch it on Friday night, so I'll have to wait until it becomes available on Netflix sometime next week.
I bought the book by Ken Follett several years back, but never got around to reading it.
I guess it will be going back onto the bedside table for future reading.
OK - here's some little known trivia. Donald Sutherland starred in another Ken Follett book-turned-movie about thirty years ago - Eye of the Needle. I loved this book when I read it in 1987 - and loved the movie when I saw it some time later. So maybe I'll be watching and knitting some more in the next little while. But if I go radio silent, it's probably because I'm reading this thousand page tome.

Was it just me or did the whole Pillars miniseries seen to go downhill after [SPOILER ALERT WARNING!] a certain builder died? And how does Stephen age so dramatically, while Jack (and William, for that matter) doesn't look a day older? How does Aliena, dragging a baby and presumably penniless, get from England to France, find Jack, and get back to England, all apparently in a matter of days judging from the baby's appearance? How does Jack, barely able to speak, become proficient in French in less than a year? How does dark-haired Prior Phillip age into a blonde senior citizen? I really liked the first four or five episodes (although a bit too gory for me), but I felt like the series really went downhill after that.

Thanks for the post on Pillars of the Earth! I read the book when it came out, and it was fabulous. I put the series in my NF instant queue to watch this week. Maybe with a cabled sweater project in my hands...

I'm hooked on Pillars to. Netflicks has it streaming. I could watch it on TV if I got my act together and figured out when it comes on here. I'll look for the book next time I hit the library.

I didn't know that it had been made into a movie. I loved that book.

That's a good book! It must be really huge, I listened to the audio book (from audible) and it was something like 40 hours long, I think. Got a lot of knitting done though!!

Oh no!!! PotE is one of my favorite books of all time and I can't believe I've missed a mini series of it. Wait - looks like I can watch it online. Phew - that's a relief!
Eye of the Needle is another wonderful book and I love that movie, too.
