Summer Camp is Especially Fun When You're 40-something

This past week I took a dozen Scouts to our favorite Boy Scout Camp. We had a blast. I never know who has more fun - the Scouts - or me! I was busy watching the boys, making sure they got to their merit badge sessions, making sure they had fun, making sure they were safe. I also taught the adult leader classes on three days, took my annual CPR re-certification, attended daily adult leader meetings, and had a general, all-around good time.

We slept in lean-tos in the woods. The weather was P-E-R-F-E-C-T! It only rained once, and that was at night. Every day was picture perfect. And our Troop also won the Spirit Stick which added to our overall morale. As if that weren't enough, we won a ton of SEQ bucks - which were turned in to have a chance to win some raffle prizes at the end of the week.

We turned in over 310,000 SEQ Bucks - or more than 24,000 per Scout. That was a pretty good per capita number and we won the top prize - a waterfront BBQ with time on the aqua trampoline.

Does this look fun or what?

During the Land and Sea games, the boys had to "Swamp the Scoutmaster" by splashing the canoe (and me) with enough water to sink the canoe. We came in 3rd place.

Our boys did their best at the Tug-o-War against Troops with boys 4-5 years older than us.

All-in-all it was a fantastic week. I'm so proud of the boys! They earned 40+ merit badges, participated in the LOBO older boy program, showed great spirit, had lots of fun, slurped a million slushies and learned many new skills. Life doesn't get any better than this.

Thanks to the parents who came to help out. A HUGE thank you to the entire camp staff who make Scouting so much fun for all of us. You guys rock!
