This weekend I got together with some Boy Scout female leaders who have all been on Wood Badge staff with me.
I made each friend some handknit sleeping socks for campouts. This came about during the Halloween weekend snowstorm (and only snow) of the 2011-2012 winter season. Just as Nora was heading out she posted on FB "Wish I had some wool socks" - and then she logged off. Well, another friend and I hijacked her FB post and proceeded to post a total of about 25 responses of conversation back-and-forth about how I thought she was angling for her own pair of hand knit socks. She got my Appalachian Trail Birch Socks (I really knit them while hiking the Appalachian Trail!) - and Michelle got my Regia Blitz blue and gray self-striping socks. These are going to be two very happy campers during the next cold spell!
It was a great lunch and it reminded us why we should do this more often. I know it's hard to stay in touch with friends when we all have such busy schedules. We had to plan our 90 minute lunch about 6 weeks ago... but it was worth every minute of it (and the hour on the road). Friends are important and I value time spent together. Thanks Michelle and Nora. Caroline - we missed you!!!

WOW very cool!!! How much of the appalachian trail did you hike?

What a great gift for such special friends. I'm sure they will treasure the socks. Now you just need to teach them to knit. That's the gift that keeps on giving!
