This Saturday was a huge gala I've been working on with some very energetic ladies for the better part of six-nine months.
We had many silent and live auction items to help raise money for our five Boy Scout properties. We asked every Pack, Troop, Crew, Post, Ship, etc to donate a basket for our cause.
My Troop came up with a creative idea to donate a fire pit and everything you need to stay toasty warm - an outdoor firepit, logs, kindling, fire starter, matches, cocoa, marshmallows, s'mores sticks, handknit hat, handknit mittens, and a warm wool blanket. It sold very well.
I also put together a knitting basket with everything for the beginner or advanced knitter. There was wool for 6-7 projects, two sets of bamboo needles, a knitting needle case and two books including my favorite title for a Scouting event "How to Knit in the Woods"
I had some more baskets including a "Stitchery Basket" with Gingher scissors, multiple cross stitch and needlepoint kits or hand-painted canvases, organizers, books, and more; I offered up a Behind the Scenes Tour of Fleet Week with my very own MREs (always a huge hit with the kids); and I asked my friends to join me to help teach a workshop where the boys can earn the Textile Merit Badge in a one-day session.
There were many other wonderful gifts from fun and practical to very exciting. It was a huge success and fun to have a Scouting event where all our friends were all dressed up and having a good time while supporting the camps we love so much.
Thanks to Sally, Barbara and Elsie who were the real organizers behind the event. Thanks to everyone who donated, and supported our wonderful event. Hope you can join us next year!
