Half of us finished our quilts in a timely fashion.
Half us us did not.
So yesterday I set up the sweat shop in my basement. Joanne, Lori and I had our day of quilting catch-up. We watched this video on free motion quilting from the Missouri Star Quilt Company
Then we made some practice quilt sandwiches to try our hand at this free motion quilting and began.
Lori was the furtherst along. She already had her quilt sandwich and had stitched in the ditch around the ovals and stems. She spent the morning doing the free motion quilting in the ovals.
Joanne worked on her practice quilt sandwich in the foreground, then pieced together her quilt top.
I thought I was going to spend the day actually quilting when I realized my backing wasn't wide enough for the entire quilt. I decided to make a yellow and gray striped accent strip for the back (see fabric on left). I spent the entire morning piecing the back. Funny how there is no actual photo of me in the sweatshop, right? At night I ironed the front and the back of my quilt.
BF asked me why only three of us came to sew. He thought perhaps not everyone was into quilting. I thought about it for a minute and came up with the answer - "Today was remedial quilting day." Remedial or not - we had a blast and made great progress.
I can't wait to share more photos as we continue with our sweat shop sessions. Happy Quilting!
