Many of my knitting friends and readers have helped me over the years with 7x9 inch swatches for blankets or complete blankets and hats for the children of mothers going through treatment for drug and alcohol addiction. I like to think of these blankets as a "Hug from Marienne" since my mother gave the best hugs ever. It's true. Just ask anyone.
Because you've all been so helpful, I thought I'd share this little virtual tour of the Jackson Recovery Center's Women and Children's Center with you. No patients are shown in this video for the sake of anonymity, but at least you can see the wonderful facility where not only are the mothers getting the help and care they need, but for many children - unborn to eighteen are getting help, too. For many of them, it's the very first time they've had medical or dental treatment, or have been in a positive, nurturing environment.
If you'd like to continue to help, please send me an email. I am always looking for additional acrylic swatches or entire blankets to deliver to the patients. Since treatment generally lasts for 90 days there is always an influx of new patients every three months. I think if we knit 150 blankets each year, we'd still not have enough for every child who comes through the door with their mothers.
I hope you enjoyed the tour. I know I did. I can just imagine all these families getting one step healthier day by day.
