Father's Day Knitting with BF

Yesterday was definitely Father's Day.  All Sports.  All Day.  After taking Secundogeniture and his friend to the local Yankee Doodle Fair (and winning more prizes) we went home to hang out around the house.

At night, we had a quick dinner and alternated between watching the Mets double header and the US Open.  That was quite an exciting finish for Rocco Mediate and Tiger Woods.  While watching the sporting events, I decided the perfect thing to knit was BF's Wedding Blanket.  I managed to nearly finish the fourth row of blocks.

How's that for a Brown-on-Brown picture?

Best part of the weekend?  My sister Ellen actually participated in WWKIP!!!  I can hardly wait to see pictures.  Her oldest son is already asking her to make him socks.

It's a Tough Transition

After looking at my list of WIPs, I decided it was time to spend a bit of attention on BF's Wedding Blanket.  I knit a few more skeins and nearly another set of blocks.

I generally don't consider myself a yarn snob, but this Karabella Supercashmere is so luxurious that I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to the acrylic baby blankets.  Sigh.  This is such a joy to knit.  It's soft.  It's warm.  It's cashmere.  It makes me smile just to hold it in my hands.  Imagine how it will feel on a cold winter night when a chill is in the air.  I figure I'll be able to finish it before Jack Frost returns to these parts.

Four Down

I've used four skeins of my SuperCashmere.  Just 34 to go.  I managed to finish the first row of squares.

I have realized that I had better knit this blanket up fast because it's going to be a bit toasty to knit underneath a cashmere blanket come summer.

Million Dollar Blankie

I purchased a total of 38 (thirty-eight) skeins of the Supercashmere for BF's wedding gift blanket.  I think I need to rename BF's Wedding Blanket the Million Dollar Blankie.  Now it looks like I have enough to finish his 56x72 blanket.  This is fun to knit because it's cashmere.  What's not to like?

Mother and Child

Jennifer_michael_2

Secundogeniture sits on Mom's lap to listen to some toasts.  Right now he's hearing the story from my oldest sister of how I got the family nickname of Foofoo.

Pardon me.  That's Major Foofoo to you.

The Answer is "Yes"

For those of you who have been wondering, I will continue to refer to my new husband as BF.  Regardless of his new title, he will always remain my Best Friend... so BF it is.

Now that I'm back in Connecticut, I'll be catching up with my knitting news and pictures.  Give me some time to unpack and do a week's worth of laundry and I promise I'll post some knitting news.

Happy Valentine's Day

You probably already guessed that the Mission Top Secret was really a Valentine's Day gift for BF.

February_2008_d_001_2

It's a pair of sleeping socks in worsted weight Lobster Pot cashmere.

  • 2 1/2 skeins of Lobster Pot worsted weight cashmere - steel gray
  • US Size 5 Turbo Addis - 40" long - for Magic Loop method
  • Cast on 40 sts and knit a basic sock from the cuff down
  • Need to rip out the toe and make the foot a teensy bit larger.

Of course, great minds think alike, so unbeknownst to each other we each purchased some sweet heart chocolate covered marshmallows from Cocoa Michelle.

Aw, ain't love grand?  It was a wonderful Valentine's Day complete with lots of other special gifts (but once again, some things are really not meant for knitterdom and blogdom.

I hope you and your loved one spent the day in a special way.

Huppah Help!

OK.  Now that I have a big ceremony planned, I need to figure out how to incorporate knitting somewhere, somehow into the Big Event, without becoming overwhelmed.  So before you send me suggestions and patterns about knitting my own dress or knitting an entire huppah, please keep in mind that it needs to be simple.  I'm thinking about making a huppah with some sort of white airy material and trimming it with a lilac lace.  Then I think I'll find someone to machine embroider Faith, Hope, Love on the four sides of the huppah.  I'll adorn the four poles with bouquets of flowers and purple ribbons.  Here's a sketch of my idea:

Here's where I need your help.  Somewhere in my knitting library I have a pattern for handknit lace to edge pillowcases, etc, but I can't find it.  I can't even remember which book it was, which eliminates the option of purchasing a new book.  Do you know of some great patterns for this type of lace?  I'll take any idea you might have.  Also, what yarn should I use?  I'm currently thinking of a Koigu in a variegated purple/lilac mix to match the purply/pinkish flowers planned for the Big Event.

It will be so wonderful to include all of you in the planning of my Big Event since you are all such a big part of my life.  I know I couldn't do it without you.

True Love

Look what BF brought home from the city?

Napenda twiga.  Do you remember your Swahili lesson?  It means I like giraffes.  Can you believe it's handknit?  Awwww.

Not Your Grandmother's Knitting Magazine

The amazingly talented Amy Singer has done it again. She's managed to take her wonderful Knitty and go a step beyond. Check out the latest edition of Knitty e-magazine which is fun, tasteful and very sexy. Are you ready for the title? Sex and the Knitty. Great articles, too. In fact, I should have waited until I read Knitty to make this morning's post. Tips with Theresa would have answered all my questions about the Kitchener Stitch.
