Grandma Lois' Ginger Snap Cookies

1 1/2 cups margarine
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
1/2 cup molasses
4 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon salt

Cream margarine and sugar; add vanilla, molasses and eggs. Sift flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and salt. Add to the creamed mixture. Mix well. Chill at least 2 hours or overnight. Make into balls about the size of a walnut and roll in sugar. Do not flatten. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10-12 minutes. Do not overbake as they burn easily. This is a huge recipe and could be cut in half.
