Prayer Shawl with Garter Stitch Stripes

Materials: 3 skeins – Homespun yarn
Size 11 or 13 straight needles or circular needles
Gauge: 4x4 inches = 9 sts across by 11 sts high
Dimensions: approximately 2 feet wide by 5 feet long
Directions: Cast on 60 stitches.
GARTER STITCH STRIPES
Rows 1-6: Knit across. Knit every row creating a garter stitch band.
Row 7: Knit across.
Row 8: Knit 5, Purl across to last 5 sts. Knit 5
Row 9: Knit across.
Row 10: Knit 5, Purl across to last 5 sts. Knit 5
Row 11: Knit across.
Row 12: Knit 5, Purl across to last 5 sts. Knit 5
Rows 13-18: Knit across. Knit every row creating a garter stitch band.
STOCKINETTE PANEL
Rows 19-36 ODD ROWS – Knit across
EVEN ROWS - Knit 5, Purl across to last 5 sts. Knit 5
Repeat the Garter Stitch Stripes section and the Stockinette Panel 5 times each.
NOTE: If you want to make your Prayer Shawl longer – repeat the above 6 or 7 times.
Repeat the Garter Stitch Stripes section only one more time at the end.
FINISHING
Bind off all 60 stitches.
Weave in any loose yarn.
