SUPPLIES
Paton's Classic Wool - Merino
Size 9 circular and dpn needles
Crochet hook
Stitch markers
NECKLINE
CO 34 stitches
Knit in K1P1 ribbing 4 rows
SHOULDERS
Change to stockinette stitch. K9, place marker, K8, place marker, K8 place marker, K9.
Purl across.
Continue to work back and forth as follows:
RS: K1 *inc1, K to marker inc 1, sl marker* 3 times
WS: Purl across
Repeat until work measures approx 2 inches from start. End with a WS row.
BODY
Join into the round. Place Marker (center front), inc 1, knit across front. Remove marker at shoulder. Knit to next marker. Inc 1, sl marker (center back), inc 1, K to next marker, remove marker at shoulder, K to end of round and inc 1.
On the next round, K without increases.
Continue working st st in the round, inc before and after markers every other round until center back measures 4.5 inches or desired length.
Knit three rounds in seed stitch (*K1P1).
Bind off.
FINISHING
Cut numerous pieces of yarn approximately 4 inches long for fringe. Using 2 pieces of yarn, evenly space fringe around the bottom edge of the poncho. Trim edges.
Sew a decorative button on the neckline and make a single chain crochet loop for the button on the opposite side of the neckline.
If you prefer, make 2 single chain crochet ties on each side of the neckline as shown in picture.
